ICELAND
Land of Fire and Ice
In the spring of 2015, I headed to Iceland to capture The Land of Fire and Ice with a workshop of photographers. For a week we traveled from the capital, Reykjavik, to the southeastern coast city of Hofn, traveling “The Golden Circle” and beyond.
“The Golden Circle” includes some of southern Iceland’s most magnificent natural wonders, from Gullfoss Falls, to Strokker Geyser, Thingvellir National Park, Vatnajokull Glacier at Skaftafell National Park, to the magnificent Skagafoss Falls.
We spent a blustery morning photographing the black rock beach near Vik, a setting for many movies and television shows including “Game of Thrones.” We spent a glorious sunny and warm afternoon photographing the dripping icebergs in the Jokulsarlon Lagoon.
My goal then (and now) is to capture the abstract features of the landscape working with the light and colors that help shape those features.
